| Who
We Are
The Child Care Council of Westchester boasts a long history serving the residents
and businesses of Westchester County, New York. Founded in 1968 as the Day Care
Council of Westchester, the Council was reincorporated in 1984 as the Child Care
Council of Westchester, Inc. In 1982, Westchester County Department of Social
Services contracted with the Council to provide certification of family child
care, and today, the Council is the official registrar for family child care in
Westchester. The Council signed its first employer contract in 1984 with General
Foods, and in 1985, Council staff organized the first professional development
day, which is currently known as Consortium Day. |

Westchester County contracted with the Council to administer its day care subsidies
for income eligible working parents. This service was provided until December,
2000. The Council established the Institute for School-Age Child Care (ISACC)
in 1997, with the Westchester's Children Association and the School-Age Director's
Network, and in 1998, became the registrar for school-age child care programs.
Today, the Child Care Council of Westchester serves more than 4,000
families, 1,300 child care programs and 50 plus businesses each year. The Council
is one of the largest child care resource and referral agencies in the state of
New York and one of approximately 730 similar agencies in the United States dedicated
to the advancement of quality child care.
A non-profit, 501(C)(3) agency
the Council obtains funding from government, foundations, the United Way of Westchester
