Council Receives Born Learning Renewal Grant

The United Way of Westchester and Putnam, Inc. awarded the Council a $10,000 renewal grant for a second year of Born Learning, a public engagement campaign to help parents, grandparents and caregivers turn everyday moments into enjoyable learning opportunities.

The Council continues its monthly Born Learning trainings, held at the Council office, to help programs and providers incorporate the Born Learning materials and ideas into their child care programs. We’ve received positive feedback indicating that parents and professionals love the materials and use them to engage both children and parents. We also will continue to provide the Born Learning “Tip of the Month” on our web site.

Join us at the New Rochelle Library on Saturday, September 24, 2011, during the Global Gala, an event sponsored by the New Rochelle BID as part of their New Rochelle Family Day series.  The Council and other community organizations will be there to meet the community and present Born Learning materials, as well as provide information about services for children and families.

We had a very successful Born Learning event last June, also at the New Rochelle Library, during their Summer Reading Kick-off.  Click here to see pictures from that event.

Born Learning has reached nearly 450 parents, child care professionals, non-profit agencies and doctors, nurses, librarians and human services professionals in over 60 programs and agencies.  In addition, the Council is working closely with Open Door Family Health Center in Ossining to ensure Born Learning materials are provided to Open Door’s clients.
