Future Leader Child Care Scholarships
An Investment Today for Our Workforce of Tomorrow

The Council is delighted to offer the Future Leader Awards for Child Care Scholarships from the Sally Ziegler Fund (previously the Sally Ziegler Child Care Scholarships). These scholarships provide up to $2,000 per year to help parents pay for child care.  Eleven scholarships were just awarded for the period June 2011 through May 2012.

Although fundraising enabled the Council to increase the number of awards, we were not able to fund all the eligible applications. With the cost of full-time child care for a 4 year old averaging $14,000 and more, regulated child care is beyond the reach of many Westchester families.

Sarah Lake is a single mom getting very little support because husband has been unemployed for the past two years. Her child attends Mt. Kisco Child Care Center. Sarah says, “The scholarship gives me peace of mind because now I can afford the quality child care that she deserves. I am so grateful that the staff told me about the scholarship opportunity.”

DID YOU KNOW . . .

. . . That with the exception of Massachusetts, New York has the most costly child care in the U.S.?  And that the average cost of child care in westchester is at the top of New York state?
