Every child "safe, loved and learning," and every parent able to earn a living and build a career? It's not simple and doesn't happen overnight, but with your help, our dedicated staff make meaningful progress and critical impact every single day. Here's what's happening right now, because you care.

Nurturing the Whole Child for Optimal Outcomes

Taking care of the “whole child” builds a strong foundation for learning and good health that can last her whole life! As part of a collaboration with Westcop, Inc.'s Early Head Start/Child Care Partnership Program, our Educational Specialist visits Endicott's Kids Zone, a group family childcare program, every week. She works closely with the child care professionals there to develop curriculum ideas and routines that provide interactive learning experiences, and coaches them to interact with children in a way that fosters positive physical and emotional development. Children at Endicott feel safe and loved and their brains are growing – while their parents can go to work without worry. These little ones will be well-prepared to succeed when they get to kindergarten!

471 Children Safe, Loved and Learning

“Daycare costs accounts for 30% of my take home income. Without this scholarship, I would not be able to afford child care, rent, food, plus all other necessities for my child. This program has given me the opportunity to be able to work full time to provide for my family while my child is being cared for in a safe and nurturing environment.”

Through a contract with the Westchester County Department of Social Services, and thanks to historic investment by our County Executive and Board of Legislators, the Council continues to reach families in need all over the county. The Westchester Works Scholarships covers about 60% of the cost of child care, allowing parents to grow their careers in vital occupations that include healthcare, government, education, retail, construction, hospitality and more.

Did you know that there are many more families who could benefit from a child care scholarship? The Council’s own programs – Keys to the Future and The Natalie Duffy Scholarship Fund for Education of Young Children – are funded by corporate and individual donors, and allow us to help families whose circumstances prevent them from qualifying for Westchester Works. If you agree that child care should never be a barrier to work, please consider a donation to the Council’s scholarship programs. Comfort, Joy, Learning – thanks to you

We asked, you answered. When we emailed about the young children who have come to Westchester with their families who are seeking asylum, you stepped up immediately. With your help, we were able to secure and deliver 200+ bags of books and stuffed animals, and 130 brand new toys to the children at Hope Plaza/Plaza Esperanza. Many of their families came here to escape violence and persecution, and we know your generosity brought comfort and joy to children who were undoubtedly scared and confused. We are exploring ways to do even more. If you would like to help with this specific initiative, donate here. (Pictured above: Council volunteer Bryan Zhong and Board Member Modupe Otelaja.)

THANK YOU for caring about the people in our community who need help. Your support changes one life at a time forever, and builds a better, sustainable child care system.

Are you a Dream Builder? Your monthly recurring gift to the Child Care Council is the best way to ensure hardworking parents do not lose sleep over impossible choices and painful sacrifices, and that Westchester's children don't miss out on what "could have been" because of their family's financial circumstances.
