Child Care Council of Westchester Board of Directors Announces Matching Campaign for #GivingTuesday

Asks donors to give on December 2 and share their support via social media

SCARSDALE, NY (October 21, 2014) – The Child Care Council of Westchester - a nonprofit resource organization that works to ensure every child in Westchester has access to quality early care and education – will once again participate in #GivingTuesday, a national movement designed to inspire people to support their local communities and create a better future. Taking place on December 2, 2014 to coincide with Thanksgiving and the start of the holiday shopping season, #GivingTuesday is a day of charitable giving, similar to how Black Friday and Cyber Monday have become synonymous with shopping. The Child Care Council’s Board of Directors announced at its September meeting that it will match all #GivingTuesday contributions, up to $2,500.

“The #GivingTuesday movement embodies the thinking that we, as Board members, hope to support and encourage in the broader community: a desire to give back and to motivate others to do the same,” said Cecilia McKenney, fundraising chair of the Child Care Council’s Board of Directors. “We hope that our promise to match these donations – doubling the impact of each person’s gift – will inspire more generosity. It’s one day to make a difference that can last a child’s entire lifetime.”

The Child Care Council participates in #GivingTuesday to raise funds for its work related to early care and education, to increase visibility, and to give supporters an opportunity to share, via social media, the reasons they support the Council. This year’s #GivingTuesday campaign focuses on specific aspects of the Council’s mission including early literacy, training for child care providers, scholarships for families in need, legislative advocacy, and referral services for parents who want to find safe, quality care they can afford.

“We’re asking our supporters, members and friends to join the #GivingTuesday movement by pledging to make a donation to the Council on December 2. Even better, go on Facebook and Twitter and tell the world why early care and education are important to you. Be sure to use the #GivingTuesdayCCCW hashtag when you comment and post,” said Child Care Council of Westchester Executive Director Kathy Halas. “We’re thrilled that this year’s donation will go even further, thanks to the generosity of our Board.”
